Product Management Goals at Santander
At the beginning of my Product Management internship at Santander Bank, I established four key S.M.A.R.T. goals to ensure that I made the most of my 10-week experience. These goals were designed to balance both hands-on learning and meaningful contribution to the team. My focus as someone pivoting into the field of Product Management was to develop tangible product management skills, to gain exposure to Santander Openbank’s initiatives, to leverage data-driven insights to inform product decisions, and to build strong professional relationships across teams. In addition to those goals, I also aimed to uphold Santander’s strong commitment to compliance and risk management standards within the industry.
Together, these goals served as a roadmap for how I intended to grow as a Product Manager—through structured learning, active collaboration, and consistent reflection on the value I added to the team.
GOAL 1:
Gain tangible experiences as a Product Manager throughout the 10-week internship by actively engaging in product meetings, providing meaningful feedback, producing quality Artifacts (User Stories, Epics, communication materials, etc.), and adding value to the Service Team. Check in weekly on the progress and quality of work through regular syncs with my manager (Esteban T.) and team.
GOAL 2:
Specifically develop 3 comprehensive User Journey flows on the Openbank side that are up to Santander standard documentation practice through regular interfacing of the Openbank site and/or mobile app and referencing to Figma models. Complete one User Journey flow every 3 weeks during the duration of the 10-week internship.
GOAL 3:
Utilise data to create 1 key targeted insight on how to optimise and enhance the Openbank product’s usage and meet the needs of the bank’s online customers. Focus on user data that provides a better look into increasing Net Promoter Score (NPS) and Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT). Explore issues through weekly conversations with the team and develop data visuals to convey the significance of the problem(s), as well as suggest 1-2 viable business recommendations by the program’s end date.
GOAL 4:
Consistently connect with product managers/owners and other co-workers inside and outside the Service Team (on a 1:1 basis, approximately 2-3 times a week for the next 5 weeks) to gain a better grasp on internal operations, working dynamics, subject-matter expertise, and spheres of influence. Goal 5 2022 Standard Risk Management & Compliance: Demonstrate and promote risk and compliance culture awareness; Complete all assigned training; Adhere to all organisational policies, Standards and procedures, etc.
